To give students a better understanding of the health benefits of all over body stretches, Qigong and Tai Chi movements to help with stress release and improve movement, mobility, balance, posture and general wellbeing and promote a healthy lifestyle

We combine Tai Chi (Chen Man Ching short form) and Qigong movements with gentle stretching and strengthening exercises that benefit all parts of the body (i.e. neck, back, shoulders, hips, legs) to help to improve movement, mobility, balance, posture and general wellbeing. We discuss the importance of warm-up before starting to exercise as well as identifying the muscles being used and exploring the reasoning behind, and the health benefits of, the various stretches and movements covered. The Glory that was Greece – C2338985


During the term, you will learn about the archaeological and historical evidence for Classical Greece from 379 – 356 BC with particular stress on the continued Spartan hegemony, and analysis of its downfall. This will include an analysis of the Spartan domination, and reasons for its failure.  We will continue to observe the changing nature of polis life, and explore the evidence for the revival of Athens and her maritime league during the period. You will become familiar with the characters of King Agesilaos, Dionysios I and II of Syracuse and Epaminondas and Pelopidas of Thebes. We will also look at technological and artistic developments in the Greek world during the same period; particular attention will be made to the works of Praxiteles.

Aboriginal Art – C2339118

In this course we will have a look at Aboriginal artwork from its inception as cave paintings possibly up to 50,000 years old , to today’s million dollar canvasses which have wowed the international art market in recent years. We will look at the subject matter which inspired the Aboriginal peoples to paint , for example the animals they hunted in ancient days, or ”maps” showing the activities of the ancestors in the mythical Dreamtime. We will look at the materials used and the technical language, in the form of symbols , used. We will then use this information to produce our own artwork , firstly by making versions of existing works , but then possibly by producing individual work using some aspect of Aboriginal artwork as inspiration.
