This Spring term will explore the story of Sheffield from mid-Victorian times to the 20th century modern era. It will look at social and political issues and the growth and decline of both cutlery and tools, and the heavy steel industry. Contemporary images, maps and documents will be examined and key sites will be visited, weather permitting. The sequence of topics may be influenced by the specific interests and knowledge of the group’s learners. We also plan to sample how to use the archives of Sheffield Local Studies Library.
